Tracing stenciled arcade artwork with vellum

The problem with reproducing arcade cabinet artwork always starts with proximity to the game. Scanning a cabinet is a ton of work, and when combining the stitching in Photoshop of all of the pieces, you might be looking at 6-12 hours on that task alone. The nice thing with stenciled artwork is that the design is usually highly refined and more simplistic, which means it is easier to do a tracing to get the artwork to a workable format. Sold my Pac-man. Heading back to Greenfield, IN

Slightly sad day I suppose. After a four months I finally sold my Pac-man today and funny enough, it’s headed back where it came – Greenfield, IN. It was my very first arcade game, but most collectors can related, eventually it comes down to space. (more…)

Start properly restoring your Satan’s Hollow

Darin Jacobs announced pre-order sales for Satan’s Hollow control panel overlay reproductions today. Satan’s Hollow artwork has a painted feel and has never been reprinted due largely to the daunting nature of the artwork. But it sounds like within two months we could see a small run of CPOs printed from Phoenixarcade.com and we have a sneak peak with a detail shot of the artwork. (more…)

Finally got my ‘White’ Mr. Do!

In the midst of all of the craziness, a couple weeks ago one of those bootleg like white Mr. Do! machines came up for sale in the Chicago area! I have only heard or seen these Mr. Do! cabinets in New York, or in Massachusetts (and one in California that was hauled back many miles) so to see one come up on eBay for a relatively cheap price I knew it was now or never.
