Sometimes you feel guilty for feeling upset about the “problems” you are having.
For instance, this week has been terrible. Work had a major deadline and the internet connection that we have has been so slow that I felt counter productive.
I have a client that needed to switch the name of her site over to something different, and as a result of all of the domain changes and email address changes, her contact form doesn’t work. Yahoo hosting is so terribly complicated. They offer a hosting service that can appeal to everything you need, but it so deep with confusing structure that you can’t get to anything you need. You need to get something done, but your connection at work is too slow and the time at work is very limited to lunch…
And then there is home. Last Saturday night I figured out that the line in the basement office was strung to this “second” tacky phone line on the outside of the house. Well, of course good ol’ SBC disconnected it so that left me high and dry, without an internet connection, and with new DSL service on the way, apparently wasting my money.
Fortunately my boss was able to come over and help me out. We figured out the circuit the jack was on, spliced the lines together, ran them through the ceiling and crawlspace, drilled a hole from the kitchen floor, ran it to the kitchen, then drilled a hole in the jack box in the kitchen and fished that line up and spliced it there.
Plus we have had a record 9 inches of rain in the first half of January. The house across the street looks like it is sitting in a pong, and our sump pump has not stopped running every 45 seconds since we got here. Last night we went out and bought a battery backup, and a battery and spent a TON of money yet again on an already pricey house. But, I am not mister fix itand figured out at the store that even if I knew how to hook it up, I could get myself electrocuted, and would probably not be able to put it in until the rain had let up and the pump had stopped working.
Then there is the old apartment complex, which I plan on writing about for a the near future. Basically for now, we will leave it at, we forgot out payment this month, were six days late, and we got an eviction notice on the door. We weren’t able to pay with regular check, so we needed a cashiers check to give to them.
Plus, we only have one key for the garage because one busted the first night we were here and we are too scared to use the other one for fear of busting it, so until we can get it copied, we have been going into our house not through the door in the garage, but the front door with all of our stuff, in the rain every night.
And I haven’t been able to update my blog.
But things are looking better. Today was warmer with sun, my outlet now works and I should have DSL turned on by Wednesday, and it appears my very patient and kind client and I were able to get her site back up and working just a day too late. But she has been so gracious, it really makes you life a little easier. Like those commercials with the “Easy” button on everything, from surgery to baby diapers.
Enough with that, and maybe back to normal life. I added some photos from my camera, that now looks like it may be broken after today. So this may be it for awhile. Hopefully I will write more tomorrow.
