7th April 2007

Today I didn’t get up until 11. I never felt crazy last night, but I woke up with some of the signs that I had fun, so it was probably good I stayed in bed. Sarah had to go up to church to help things get setup for Alter Guild. She was asleep at 1:30 last night, and awake by about 8:00 this morning. She didn’t end up getting back until about noon.

Once she got back, we had a little something to eat and sat down to finish the remaining Heroes episodes. That took us a little while with a little over three left, and we got done about 2:30 or so. I don’t remember exactly what we did after that, I think we might have done some surfing for dogs, and had talked about going to the animal control center, which I found is very close to our house. But I thought that we would leave there for sure with a dog, and I was still being wishy washy, soe she popped in a movie to continue relaxing and I went out to the garage. I worked on my Dig Dug game a little bit, starting to take out the old harness and put in the new one I got on ebay.

Around 5:30 Sarah popped her head out in the garage. She had called to Petsmart and Petco to see if they had any new dogs. She had gone last night to see, and they didn’t, but I guess they had two new dogs at the second visiting shelter, and she wanted to pop down there really quick before they closed up shop for the weekend.

The two dogs ended up being labs, so we passed. Then we walked to the back of the store to see the PAK puppies. They had the same two dogs, and one little puppy that made our hearts she a beat. He looked very similar in coloring to Kellogg, and he was the last one, sitting there calmly by himself. We took him out of the cage and let him wander around, and held him as we asked some questions. His litter was brought in last night, and today about 4-5 of his brothers and sisters had been adopted, he was the last one. He seemed to be some sort of Shepherd Terrier mix (We later found out it was probably more lab than Terrier), and he was very calm and sweet.

Then, the lady basically asks if we are interested, and if we are, we can take him no charge as a Happy Easter present since they wouldn’t be around tomorrow and they would just rather give him a good home. We agreed to at least foster him, but what a great deal, with all of the circumstances I think we both felt like it was meant to be a little. We are still going to have him checked out this week for anything major, but barring that he’ll probably be ours.

We brought him home, played with him, took him out, and fed him for the next couple of hours. Then, we had to run back to the church. We took the puppy with us that right now we were tentatively naming “Shark” because of his stalking movements when he was playing. Sarah had to change the sash on the cross to white for Easter. It was miserable outside, happy Easter weather.

Afterwards, even though we were very nervous to have him in a house where there had been other dogs, we went over to Lori and Kenny’s. He helped me figure out how to change the lightbulb for the car, and we went to get that replaced and put back in. We visited for a little bit before we headed home. Sarah held onto the puppy all night and didn’t let him on the floor, with so little vaccinations we weren’t going to repeat any mistakes.

On the way home I switched a movie at Blockbuster and got Employee of the Month. Came home and watched part of that, Sarah went to bed. The dog slept on my chest as I also fell asleep on the couch.

Needless to say, tonight I slept very little. I woke up every hour listening for the puppy and whether or not he was breathing. I was scared and helpless, afraid to have the horror repeated that we experience with Kellogg. Sarah did the same thing, so we were both pretty out of it Sunday morning.
