Single and Double Quotes – Copy and Paste from Dreamweaver to WordPress
Last week when I was having the major issues with bad characters that was causing my server to overload, I guessed that it was because of corrupted characters.
But I know after tonight, it has to do with single and double quotes that I copied and pasted out of Dreamweaver.
The quotes aren’t the same in “Design” view as they are when you paste them into a “Write Post” textarea in WordPress. Now, you might be able to copy the HTML encoding for quotes, but this is not what I was doing.
So, want to max, overload, and crash your server with WordPress? Copy and paste out of Dreamweaver into WordPress. Even set on “Linux” characters translation, it doesn’t matter.
With so much copy and pasting, I will just have to watch it. But it truly is a smart idea to post into Notepad, or PSPad first out of any software, even one as robust and one you wouldn’t think would create bad characters like Dreamweaver.
Tempest Sold!
It reminds me a little bit of my trip to Nashville. That next weekend I sold off what I got.
Today I sold the Tempest cabinet for $50. Not an outstanding price, but a fair price for someone and it helps it move. I didn’t get that much attention in 12 hours, and it is going to someone who really loved the game growing up. It sounds like this guy is going to make it into a Mame machine, but mostly preserve it. He has some great woodworking skills, so he will probably do a little fixing on the cab and make it into a fun and great machine.
I am just glad it went to someone who wanted it. I was getting tired thinking about tracking down parts and having my costs wrapped up in a game for over a year that I wasn’t sure I was going to keep.
I just wish I could have gotten scans of the sideart, or close up photos, but I ran out of time. It’s all good though.
But I think it may be in my destiny to not have a Tempest. I have had possession of two now (including the one I sold to Robert, a cabaret) and immediately resold them in a short time.
Tetris Cabinet
The fourth of four cabinets I got today.
This was a cabinet I saw in Tim’s garage when we met in December. When we started to discuss this trade, I suggested this game. I was remembering for some reason that it had a monitor, but it doesn’t. But, pop in a monitor and a PCB, and it should work. I do love Tetris, I debated on whether or not I would keep it based on the space and the fact that I could just get Tetris in a Playchoice. I will probably fix it up, and then end up selling it to cover my travel costs. Of all the cabs, this should be the most simple. Clean it a little, track down the parts, I have a monitor, and I could have it up and working relatively quick.
Food Fight Cabinet
The third of four arcade cabinets I got today.
Once Tim posted this in his first group of arcade cabinets he was selling, I expressed an interest to him. In the past couple of months I have learned some things about the game, like it’s relation to Quantum and the low production numbers. I have always loved the shape of the cab and, of course, the colorful sideart as well. The gameplay is fun to boot, so until I found out the rarity I didn’t really realize the value of a Food Fight. (more…)
Xevious Cabinet
The second of four cabinets I got today.
It was the same story with this cabinet. As you can see, it was converted a while back into the loathsome Capcom Bowling and Tim said it was mine if I came and got it, but the cost of getting there with a truck or something else that isn’t mine always outweighed the worth.
Here are some photos of the cab.
It has some cross beams that will be refastened, but it isn’t in bad condition. The question is, will I have the same luck removing the latex black paints on the sides that I did with the Dig Dug restore? It is the classic Atari latex sideart, so I am hoping so. But for the value of the game, I can’t do too much with it. If it doesn’t come off nicely, I will just have to wait for an Xevious that comes closer to me. They all seem to come up in Florida.
~Edit – I tried some Goof Off on the cabinet. The whites are always a problem, they may be even more so on this one. But you have to love that Atari sideart. Such great opportunities for restores. This is about 20 minutes of work, most of it waiting.

Tempest Arcade Cabinet
This Tempest cabinet is one of four I got today in my Frenzy trade.
Ever since I first met Tim Hill last December, we have been emailing about this Tempest cabinet. He said it was mine if I came and got it, but the cost of getting there with a borrowed truck or other transportation always outweighs the worth. It was empty, and just sitting around taking up space for him. So, we finally worked out this deal where I would trade him a non working but complete Stern Frenzy for Tetris, Tempest, Food Fight and Xevious cabinets. Hopefully it was a good deal for both of us but I think for me it is yet to be seen. However, he has been so helpful since I met him, and I got him a game he really wanted, so that makes me happy.
Here are some photos of the Tempest cab.
I decided on the way home today that I think I am going to sell it. The weight of having 7 cabs in my garage currently, and then the idea of tracking down all the parts for a game that I don’t feel strongly about got to me. Plus, it is the one cab that I hope can make back some of my travel costs.
Scrubs has a lot more character development then I thought
On the way home from work we played delivery people. We dropped off a bunch of Pampered chef stuff to friends who ordered it.
When I got home, I had a call I had to make to a contact that took about an hour.
Then we had some dinner, and I popped in a DVD. The first disc of the first season of Scrubs came in the mail tonight from Blockbuster and I wanted to try to watch all of it. It is a lot of episodes to watch in one night, eight total, but tomorrow I wanted to return it and get another movie free for a movie night with friends.
So, I watched the whole thing. I laughed quite a bit. But the more important thing, the show does a lot of character development I think. The humor is quite obvious, physical, and sometimes reaches out and hits you over the head. But for me, watching random episodes some times didn’t do anything for me. But when I watched these first eight, things came together for me. The episodes I had seen made more sense why the characters are the way they are, and how the humor has built on itself for so long.
Unfortunately, that is all I did tonight. Sarah did a ton of work on the laptop and on fast direct, the online system for school. She is trying a new approach to work this year, and I hope it works out for her. But she was feeling terrible, itchy eyes and general allergy type symptoms. It was nice to go to bed together around 11:30.
