Div tags disappearing in my WordPress Code View
I was having this issue, and I finally took the time to figure out why and what to do about it today. I searched the support forums and this is the post that I found that solved all of my problems.
Tiny MCE as configured in WordPress 2.1 wipes away divs and replaces them with p tags.
This can be fixed by doing the following:
1-Open your TinyMCE config file in an editor. The file is located at:
wp-includes/js/tinymce/tiny_mce_config.php2-Replace Line 25 with the following but on a single line:
$valid_elements = ‘#p[*],-div[*],-strong/-b[*],-em/-i[*],-font[*],-ul[*],-ol[*],-li[*],*[*]’;
3-Save the file back to your active WordPress installation, overwriting the existing tiny_mce_config.php file.
4-In WordPress admin, the editor will now allow divs.
You may have to refresh your editor page.
As always, copy your original tiny_mce_config.php file to a safe place for backup before editing the original.
I had noticed that any div’s I put in the code view of WordPress were converted to “p” tags. With this change I should be able to more easily add in my graphical movie reviews, the last major section of my blog left to transfer.
WP-Sticky Plugin for WordPress
This was the problem I was having. I couldn’t figure out how to keep certain posts at the top of a section of posts in a category. There were some categories that I had what I would consider an “introduction” that I wanted to always be on top. This kind of breaks the format of a blog, but this is how I like things.
I did some searching on category related plugins, but the wp-sticky plugin is really what I was looking for.
When you go to write a new post, on the right column of options, you will see a new section called “Post Sticky Status”. There are three options;
- Announcement
- Sticky
- Normal
This is what each of these options mean.
- “Normal” post is just what you write every day, it falls into the chronological order of your posts for that category.
- “Sticky” post is a post that will be on the top of your group of posts for that day, breaking the chronological order but not permanently. When you post tomorrow, that sticky post will be bumped down the page.
- “Announcement” post will permanently stay at the top of the page.
An announcement post is what I was looking for, something to break the chronological order and always be on top. But I like the option to sticky a post as well, to order a set of posts by day.
Great plugin for this need, easy to use. If you are looking for a WordPress plugin to change the order of your posts and always keep a post on top of a page, WP-Sticky is your plugin.
~Edit
After I wrote this post, I noticed that the “Announcement” option was also taking over the heirarchy of my posts on my homepage, not category specific. There is an option to set it to only categories though, here is what you do;
Options > Sticky
“Categories Only” = Yes
By default, “Categories Only” is set to “No”. Just set it to “Yes”, and you should be able to control the hierarchy only within categories.
Big Breakfast, Big Music, and Dog Parades
Both of the dogs were up early early this morning. By the time I finally woke up, Sarah had been up with Nokes for probably and hour and a half, and she with mom and dad had taken a long walk around the block.
We did the big breakfast thing a little later in the morning. Sarah braved making omelettes, and did an awesome job. I tried to make a breakfast tortilla in the tortilla maker. It was good, but not perfect. Next time it will be better:)
One of the original thoughts was that we might go to some public auctions in the area. There were 3-4 four, at different spots all around the city and they all started at 10 am. Well, by the time breakfast was done, it was 11 am, so we decided to just skip it.
After hanging out and talking about the plans for the day, we left around 1 and the girls went to get haircuts at the beauty school. Dad and I went to Menards to get a 3/4″ joint for the hilly billy golf game fix, and I also got some more Goof Off and put it on our Discover card present from last Christmas that we found again on Friday night:)
We weren’t home for long. We headed right back out with the dogs to Christine’s house to walk Lady. Christine was out of town for the weekend, so everyone piled into the van for a fun time walking the dogs in some sort of parade around her sub-division. Hunter and Lady didn’t get along well, which is what I was concerned with. Lady just growled and growled, and attacked at one point. This is true to what Christine has said in the past, but we just haven’t seen it. Our parents had met her before and knew how complacent she normally is and were equally surprised at her actions. It was weird seeing Nokes by Lady, he really has gotten bigger, and is bigger than she is now.
When we got back we were hoping that the Tigers were going to be on Saturday tv. They weren’t, at least not until the Braves / Mets game was over. We got to see one inning of the Tigers game before it was all said and done.
We finished the night off with some dinner, and then played games outside. Dad put the new joint in the hilly billy golf, and we played that and cornhole. I made a fire for a little while and we roasted mini marshmellow (that is all we had) and made smores.
When we came inside, I finished watching “The Perfect Stranger” before I went to bed. It was a weird movie, kept you guessing.
Space Invaders Deluxe Boards Fixed!
I got an email back from Alex tonight. He got the boards, did his tests, and fixed them. It was the problem that I had narrowed down with the power supply, this is what he said;
We did find that the -5V voltage regulator on your power regulator board had failed. It’s been replaced, and the power regulator is working properly again.
The motherboard and sound board both tested OK – luckily the problem with the power regulator board didn’t do any damage to them.
My biggest concern was that the Space Invader that was racing across the screen when you plugged the game in was permanent damage. We had left the game on for awhile on the first night that I got it back in April, and I thought for sure that the wrong voltages had corrupted chips on the main PCB. This was something that Alex had indicated to me, and I wasn’t sure if that would be an additional expense because, really…that would have been my fault in a sense.
But, it sounds like things should work out fine. I just hope I still have a buyer when it gets sent back to me.
Can’t get my Illustrator crop marks to go away!
This was a problem I was having this morning. I had an Illustrator file that I hadn’t built originally that I had edit and adjust the document size on, and a there were some corresponding crop marks with the original document dimensions.
I was used to using a filter to make crop marks, so I looked through the file to find locked artwork paths for the crop marks, but to no avail. I didn’t realize that there was an object now where you can easily make, preserve, and re-use crop marks.
All I had to do to unlock and edit those pesky crop marks that I couldn’t resize was;
Object > Crop Area > Release
This release the marks back to the original artwork and allowed me to resize them for the document area. Then I just did the opposite from the same menu;
Object > Crop Area > Make
And I was good to go again. They wouldn’t have even mattered, but, when you make these cropmarks and export a document as a raster image, it would use the cropmarks as the cropping area. Novel idea. So I had to resize them before I could the adjusted Illustrator file.
Having company forces you to start cleaning
I got out of work early today because my boss is so nice. I picked up Sarah and we went to the gym and lifted.
We got home, and then went back out on our bikes to run some errands, stopping at the bank, the movie store and Aldi for some buns and green peppers.
Then when we got back, the cleaning started. Sarah did some vacuuming, I organized papers that needed to find a home and picked up general clutter. I didn’t have much of that to do, so I sat down and transferred a whole section of blog posts over to the new blog. Sarah then went into her office with the idea that she was going to clean it up.
She didn’t finish before her parents arrived around 9:30. But her mom helped her clean, which more power to them. I can’t be in there without being less than helpful, and they got one heck of a mess cleaned up and more importantly, filed away so we could use the bed in that room.
We took it easy, just sat around and talked and then finished the night off with some tv and part of a movie.
Progress on the Xevious
We had a Discover gift card from last Christmas, and we had to go to Menard’s on Saturday so I decided to pick up the industrial liquid container of Goof Off. I worked on the top corner of the game, just scraping off a little bit to see how I would apply it and how well the liquid worked. Pretty much worked the same, and it is difficult to apply but by unit it is cheaper as a larger container.
I was killing some time, so I just took apart some other things. I took out the marquee and chucked it, and used the goo gone on the auction sticker on the plexiglass. I found a major mouse nest behind the marquee that I had to vaccum out, that was fun.
Then I peeled off all of the bowling lane pattern on the wood on the marquee as well as the overlay on the control panel. There was a hack job done to the control panel for sure, some shotty bondo work, and there were a ton of extra holes in the cpanel. I have my work cut out for me if I see this thing through.
