Finished putting Wells Gardner Monitor back together
I went out and got a new ratchet so I could more easily put the Wells Gardner monitor parts back together and get the monitor plugged back up to the Wizard Of Wor game. I was glad that I had the extra arcade game cabs so that they could serve as a work bench.
The Wells Gardner monitor was a difficult cap kit replacement to work on, so I was glad that everything powered up just fine when I turned the Wizard of Wor game on. But, unfortunately when the monitor lit up, it still had the lines going through the opening screen and gameplay. The cap kit didn’t fix my game issue, and now I have to go back to the drawing board.
More Tetris Photos
In trying to figure out what or how I am going to mount a 19″ monitor in the dynamo Tetris cabinet, here are some more photos of the front and the back directly on.
Dynamo Tetris Cabinet takes a 25″ monitor?
That would change things for me a little bit. I had no idea until I got to looking at it yesterday and thought, there is no way I can just put a 19″ raster arcade monitor into this Tetris. I did some measuring and asked Tim, and sure enough, I would need to do some woodworking or something else to mount the monitor I have in this cabinet.
So, I have to ask myself, is the work worth it? It is a Jamma cabinet, I looked at that yesterday, so that is cool for a multi-use kind of situation, but do I want to do all the work on this game to get a monitor to mount? Mind you, I feel like there would need to be some engineering because of the weight of the monitor in the cabinet, mounted to only wood in this case (currently), and then what? I sell the game? I don’t want to keep space just for a Tetris, I would rather have a Playchoice 10 for that.
I have to think about it really good. Maybe I can sell that one two, but it is a lot more unlikely.
More Xevious Artwork Revealed
I had the rest of the can of Goof Off, and a bunch of curiosity, so I worked more on scraping off the black paint on the Xevious today.
The can is gone now, so without a real rush I will probably hold off on buying another can until I get through some of the other fixes I have to do.
But it looks good. I just have a feeling that getting the black off the white artwork on this Xevious is going to be harder than the Dig Dug.
Tempest Sold!
It reminds me a little bit of my trip to Nashville. That next weekend I sold off what I got.
Today I sold the Tempest cabinet for $50. Not an outstanding price, but a fair price for someone and it helps it move. I didn’t get that much attention in 12 hours, and it is going to someone who really loved the game growing up. It sounds like this guy is going to make it into a Mame machine, but mostly preserve it. He has some great woodworking skills, so he will probably do a little fixing on the cab and make it into a fun and great machine.
I am just glad it went to someone who wanted it. I was getting tired thinking about tracking down parts and having my costs wrapped up in a game for over a year that I wasn’t sure I was going to keep.
I just wish I could have gotten scans of the sideart, or close up photos, but I ran out of time. It’s all good though.
But I think it may be in my destiny to not have a Tempest. I have had possession of two now (including the one I sold to Robert, a cabaret) and immediately resold them in a short time.
Tetris Cabinet
The fourth of four cabinets I got today.
This was a cabinet I saw in Tim’s garage when we met in December. When we started to discuss this trade, I suggested this game. I was remembering for some reason that it had a monitor, but it doesn’t. But, pop in a monitor and a PCB, and it should work. I do love Tetris, I debated on whether or not I would keep it based on the space and the fact that I could just get Tetris in a Playchoice. I will probably fix it up, and then end up selling it to cover my travel costs. Of all the cabs, this should be the most simple. Clean it a little, track down the parts, I have a monitor, and I could have it up and working relatively quick.
Food Fight Cabinet
The third of four arcade cabinets I got today.
Once Tim posted this in his first group of arcade cabinets he was selling, I expressed an interest to him. In the past couple of months I have learned some things about the game, like it’s relation to Quantum and the low production numbers. I have always loved the shape of the cab and, of course, the colorful sideart as well. The gameplay is fun to boot, so until I found out the rarity I didn’t really realize the value of a Food Fight.
