Pengo board shipped!

My pengo pcb is back on it’s way to me from Pittsburgh via ground. It should work from what I hear.

I need to double check my power supply. It was fine when I looked at it before, but it is always good to double check. If I felt more proficient I would probably look at a switcher instead.

Supposedly the board didn’t have a chip that was fully seated, or a leg was bent or something. I tried reseating them myself, and didn’t notice a change. I was also really careful about the legs, so I don’t doubt it was bent, I just wish I knew how it got that way.

Got plywood board for Tetris

Last night I took a trip to get a “free” plywood board to mount the 19″ monitor in the Tetris. Granted, it cost my gas, and it was in Avon area, but still a bit cheaper I suppose than buying a whole sheet new. It is 25 x 36 x 3/4″, which should be thick enough to support a monitor and I held it up last night, it is big enough to fit in the space I need.

Now I just need to get some help making it fit the Tetris, with the holes cut for the monitor and bolts. I am going to try to secure some help Friday for the next week.

Now I have to test that monitor’s diodes in the basement:)

Jr. Pac-man might be on it’s way to me

It may take three weeks, but it sounds like I may be able to have it delivered to my area, which would be just amazing. I will post updates as I get them here, of course. But…the countdown is on.

Finished putting Wells Gardner Monitor back together

I went out and got a new ratchet so I could more easily put the Wells Gardner monitor parts back together and get the monitor plugged back up to the Wizard Of Wor game. I was glad that I had the extra arcade game cabs so that they could serve as a work bench.

The Wells Gardner monitor was a difficult cap kit replacement to work on, so I was glad that everything powered up just fine when I turned the Wizard of Wor game on. But, unfortunately when the monitor lit up, it still had the lines going through the opening screen and gameplay. The cap kit didn’t fix my game issue, and now I have to go back to the drawing board.

More Tetris Photos

In trying to figure out what or how I am going to mount a 19″ monitor in the dynamo Tetris cabinet, here are some more photos of the front and the back directly on.

Sega’s Pengo Artwork

I can remember playing Pengo in the mid 80’s on an early IBM computer. This computer was a huge part of my childhood, friend’s of my parents owned it and their son was a burgeoning computer nerd. He always had different games loaded on it, including some popular, to be, arcade classic’s like Sega’s Pengo. I could play Pengo for hours, so until I got it in late summer of 2006, I had never actually played Pengo as an upright machine.

I would like to build up my library of exclusively owned vector artwork of games I like, artwork I like, and rarity. I felt like the Pengo sideart fell into all of those categories, and there is some demand out there for Pengo reproduction artwork in case I want to go through the process of printing.

Dynamo Tetris Cabinet takes a 25″ monitor?

That would change things for me a little bit. I had no idea until I got to looking at it yesterday and thought, there is no way I can just put a 19″ raster arcade monitor into this Tetris. I did some measuring and asked Tim, and sure enough, I would need to do some woodworking or something else to mount the monitor I have in this cabinet.

So, I have to ask myself, is the work worth it? It is a Jamma cabinet, I looked at that yesterday, so that is cool for a multi-use kind of situation, but do I want to do all the work on this game to get a monitor to mount? Mind you, I feel like there would need to be some engineering because of the weight of the monitor in the cabinet, mounted to only wood in this case (currently), and then what? I sell the game? I don’t want to keep space just for a Tetris, I would rather have a Playchoice 10 for that.

I have to think about it really good. Maybe I can sell that one two, but it is a lot more unlikely.
