Professor Pac-man Control Panel Reproductions Finished!
My first reproduction work that has physically been made! The Professor Pac-man control panel overlays came in, and Rick sent me some photos. They are at an extreme angle, but that is good for obvious reasons for the two of us and it shows anyway how cool they look. Check out one of them below.
Circus Charlie Artwork Update
Well, Brian Koening has been pushing on the forums to see if the party who had the Circus Charlie sideart reproduction was serious or not. But as of right now, things have come to a halt. I haven’t followed up just yet on photos, I may try to do that this week and see what I get.
If you want to read some of the forum threads, here is the follow up thread on KLOV and the original thread on KLOV about the Circus Charlie Sideart.
More Xevious Artwork Revealed
I had the rest of the can of Goof Off, and a bunch of curiosity, so I worked more on scraping off the black paint on the Xevious today.
The can is gone now, so without a real rush I will probably hold off on buying another can until I get through some of the other fixes I have to do.
But it looks good. I just have a feeling that getting the black off the white artwork on this Xevious is going to be harder than the Dig Dug.
Tempest Sold!
It reminds me a little bit of my trip to Nashville. That next weekend I sold off what I got.
Today I sold the Tempest cabinet for $50. Not an outstanding price, but a fair price for someone and it helps it move. I didn’t get that much attention in 12 hours, and it is going to someone who really loved the game growing up. It sounds like this guy is going to make it into a Mame machine, but mostly preserve it. He has some great woodworking skills, so he will probably do a little fixing on the cab and make it into a fun and great machine.
I am just glad it went to someone who wanted it. I was getting tired thinking about tracking down parts and having my costs wrapped up in a game for over a year that I wasn’t sure I was going to keep.
I just wish I could have gotten scans of the sideart, or close up photos, but I ran out of time. It’s all good though.
But I think it may be in my destiny to not have a Tempest. I have had possession of two now (including the one I sold to Robert, a cabaret) and immediately resold them in a short time.
Tetris Cabinet
The fourth of four cabinets I got today.
This was a cabinet I saw in Tim’s garage when we met in December. When we started to discuss this trade, I suggested this game. I was remembering for some reason that it had a monitor, but it doesn’t. But, pop in a monitor and a PCB, and it should work. I do love Tetris, I debated on whether or not I would keep it based on the space and the fact that I could just get Tetris in a Playchoice. I will probably fix it up, and then end up selling it to cover my travel costs. Of all the cabs, this should be the most simple. Clean it a little, track down the parts, I have a monitor, and I could have it up and working relatively quick.
Food Fight Cabinet
The third of four arcade cabinets I got today.
Once Tim posted this in his first group of arcade cabinets he was selling, I expressed an interest to him. In the past couple of months I have learned some things about the game, like it’s relation to Quantum and the low production numbers. I have always loved the shape of the cab and, of course, the colorful sideart as well. The gameplay is fun to boot, so until I found out the rarity I didn’t really realize the value of a Food Fight. (more…)
Xevious Cabinet
The second of four cabinets I got today.
It was the same story with this cabinet. As you can see, it was converted a while back into the loathsome Capcom Bowling and Tim said it was mine if I came and got it, but the cost of getting there with a truck or something else that isn’t mine always outweighed the worth.
Here are some photos of the cab.
It has some cross beams that will be refastened, but it isn’t in bad condition. The question is, will I have the same luck removing the latex black paints on the sides that I did with the Dig Dug restore? It is the classic Atari latex sideart, so I am hoping so. But for the value of the game, I can’t do too much with it. If it doesn’t come off nicely, I will just have to wait for an Xevious that comes closer to me. They all seem to come up in Florida.
~Edit – I tried some Goof Off on the cabinet. The whites are always a problem, they may be even more so on this one. But you have to love that Atari sideart. Such great opportunities for restores. This is about 20 minutes of work, most of it waiting.
