Where I got the Frenzy

Frenzy Marquee

I came across this cabinet for sale at a local auction house here in Indianapolis, much to my surprise. I got to the event late that morning, and it was one of the first things to be auctioned. Being a little flustered, I wasn’t as patient as I should have been, but I still knew my upper price limit. I ended up bidding $20 to buy the machine. I probably could have waited, there might have been one other interested guy, but the crowd was thin and no one was bidding. Oh well. Next time I’ll have some more patience to let it hit the floor in price, but it was still a really great value.

Happs and Wolverine Electronics – Limited Selection

On Friday I finally made it over to Happs and Wolverine Electronics. Neither of them had my 9 pin female molex connector that I need. Happs couldn’t even order it they said. On Thursday I stopped by and got a bag of free molex connectors, I mean a ton of them. But, not the style of one I needed. So, I guess that means I am going to have to try King’s, Meunier’s, or even Fry’s (*gasp*). I have to get the diode for the audio board anyway, so it should be a worthwhile trip. I am just bummed it has been so hard to find this connector. I have the pins, and I posted on both of the main arcade forums, but no one has answered.

Second instance of Mr. Do! doesn’t exist

I called Joe back today. Bad news. He said he didn’t have a dedicated Mr. Do in the warehouse anymore. He said business for the dedicated games has dropped with the newer games today, and they just don’t have any dedicated Do’s anymore, let alone the one I was looking for. I asked if he could find out who he sold it to, and he didn’t think he could. So, that lead is dead. And with it, for now, my project. I may find something else turn up someday, the problem being, even if it does turn up, what shape will the sideart be in? It is a double battle, waiting to find one, and to find one that has sideart that hasn’t been worn off completely.

It makes me sad, but Joe was very nice and I thanked him for his help, really good guy.

Summer Indianapolis Super Auction

I was very suprised to see this listed on the Super Auctions auction page back in April. I had considered going over to Dayton
to check out that auction they were putting on in May, and they had another one the same day as the Pinball at the Zoo in Kalamazoo, MI. It seemed like this summer they are really making a push to get out there and make more auctions.

I very much think this will be a one time deal, and could prove very interesting. Robert doesn’t recall a Super Auction since he
has been in the hobby, so they haven’t been here for at least 10 years. I don’t know if they will bring inventory with them, reading their website that is a very good possibility.

All I know is that the project games in Kzoo, and some of the regular ones went for very little money, even more so than the US Amusement auctions, so I am really looking forward to this one. I am having issues finding someone with a vehicle that will be around, but that will have to just work itself out.

Don’t know what I will be able to post about the auction. I have heard that they are really weird about you taking photos, which I don’t have any idea why. I will try anyway, it’s a free country.

Update: The auction didn’t go down today, the website said “Auction Postponed”. I was irked to say the least, because the post didn’t come up until late Friday night more than likely, because I didn’t see it before I went downtown. I do hope they re-schedule, but I know they pissed off a bunch of people who came from 90 miles away or more. Especially with the way gas prices are right now.

Rob Carroll’s Mr. Do! going on ebay

Earlier in the week Rob Carroll put his Mr. Do up for sale on ebay. He was so nice to offer it to me first. He had put a new monitor and power supply in the machine, so it had some nice additions, and he wanted a fair price for it. But with shipping it was just going to be too expensive, so I had to let it pass. So he listed it.

This got me motivated, now that I didn’t know if I would know anyone who owned this machine after the auction was over, to give PA Gamewarehouse a call. Rob had found a name, and that is who I asked for. Turns out the name was a little off, and a little research on the site would have turned up the correct one. Joe over there asked me to send and email kind of detailing what I was looking for and going into more depth of what I had started to explain on the phone. I did so, pretty in depth, so hopefully I will hear some sort of reply back soon. He wasn’t even sure if they had that game in the warehouse anymore.

Finishing touches on Agent X kickplate

In some stage, it is finished! Whoo, what a ton of work. I might have reconsidered if I knew going in the amount of work this would have been. A lot of hours, and a lot of my precious time taken up on this thing.

I matched thickness on borders tonight and adjusted surrounding artwork. That sounds simple enough, but took forever. A lot of guides, a lot of dragging and adjusting control points. I also did some of the final stuff like make clipping masks and double check the thickness of the little repeating squares and the circles on the main border.

Now, I need actual dimensions of the artwork and to color match it. I have to wait for that info, but for now my part is done. If it takes awhile to get that stuff, I will post a final image here.

Cap kit for Sanyo 19″ Color 20-Z2AW

And yet almost another month gone. Today I finally finished the cap kit on the monitor for the Dig Dug, a Sanyo 19″ Color 20-Z2AW, or so the cap kit package from Bob Roberts says. I think it is a variation of the number, but the same idea. I also got to solder on the new resistor on the Audio board, and removed the other bad resistor. Now I have to figure out what I need there as my next step I would guess.
