Mr. Agent X vectorized

Traced “Agent X” coming out of the elevator tonight, so I have one character down. The sideart really is a great design, simplicity
is the strongest aspect of the art, and bold lines. The border, however, is going to suck big ones. Lots of little squares and details to account for.

Richard emailed me today and said that he should be able, for sure, to get the kickplate made, so I may now turn my attentions to reproducing that first.

Replacing more caps on the EZ-20 monitor

Got outside today and took off about 5-6 more caps from the monitor. But, for now, I am not rushing, because yesterday at the
Indianapolis USAmusements I bought a nice working Dig Dug that hopefully I can use to trade. Kind of weird having two of them now, after so much time and work, and now I have two. But it is nice to have another working machine that I can play, even if it is a game that I am not crazy about.

April 14th, 2007

A lot of time had passed, and planned weekends didn’t work out. But finally, the third weekend of April Justin was coming down. I finally decided that I should try to sell the cab for really cheap so he didn’t have to haul the stupid thing down here and then have me try to sell it, or give it away. I have had some call backs from my multiple posts, but no one has committed to buying it yet.

Spring Indianapolis USAmusement Auction April 2007

Looking forward going to this auction this time around, specifically because I am on the lookout for a short list of machines. I would say most of them won’t show up, but two or three might and this might be a great place to get them because of the drop in attendance. But because of the attendance dropping, this could also mean an even worse show than the last one.

At the very least, I will be going early in the morning to check out what is available.

Now that this auction is over, I will say that this one was better than the last for selection of classic arcade games. That row had a couple of mini’s (Pac and Ms. Pac), a Galaga, and even a Defender that went for a pretty penny. I left with a great deal on a Dig Dug, and I thought there seemed to be a few more items this time and more people.

Pengo at Bidding At Auction in Grand Rapids

I haven’t done a lot with this game since I had problems with it over a month ago. I got the game working for the most part, but it was really loud. No matter what I did, I couldn’t get the volume turned down low enough so that it didn’t hurt my ears.

But, when I would move the coin door, I would get some static noise. The next time I turned the game on, I got garbage on the screen.

So this week, I was looking at an auction site in Grand Rapids, and they have a working Pengo! I was pretty pumped about that. It doesn’t have the sideart, and plays the same stupid soundtrack mine does (Justin went and checked it out), but it would be sweet to get it for cheap and combine the two to get one working one without having to troubleshoot mine. But I also know a good friend of mine wants one too, and he is not too far away, so he may just bid on it as well.

So, I went downstairs and took some photos of the screen I am seeing. I also did some checking with Elektron Forge and Alex to see if he would repair a board, if that was what the problem is. He said he doesn’t work on those boards, so I will have to look somewhere else I guess.

With the auction going down tomorrow, and I without any news answers for my game, and the potential costs to fix it, I will just have to play it by ear. There are a ton of great trade game auctions on ebay right now, and an original Jr. Pac, so I have to just be smart and see if it makes sense.

Discharged the EZ-20 monitor

Got out today, discharged the monitor, and redid two of the caps.

Second set of Mr. Do! photos from Rob Carroll

Got another zip file today of detail shots of the bezel artwork, thanks a ton Rob. He sent me a close up of most of the characters, so I have something really solid to get a start on now.

I posted on the BYOAC forum about the white Mr. Do sideart, as well as the Mame Artwork forum, so hopefully someone will be kind enough to help me and to know either someone who owns one, or have photos or artwork already themselves. We’ll see, it is a tough find.
