Still hoping I can get photos from Walt

I called Walt today and left another message. I just let him know that I would call him one more time before I left him alone. I may have put him on the spot, asking him to take those photos, but that is why I told him I would barter with him time. I could give him web services for his website if needed, so he was getting something in return for his time. But either way, he hasn’t gotten back to me, and neither did Gary the last time I emailed, so I am at a dead end with this piece of art. I am just really glad that the Jr. Pac-man stuff has gone so well with Richard, otherwise I might be really discouraged.

Professor Pac-man ghost finished

Finished up the orange ghost tonight. I have pieces of the Professor Pac-man on the overlay finished, but he is the last piece and I will be able to post an image of the finished piece here, maybe still sometime this weekend.

Cleaning Dig Dug control panel

Took a moment to setup and spray the Dig Dug control panel tonight with the Orange cleaner and degreaser. From what I had remembered Richard telling me, I was supposed to let that sit for awhile, probably hours, then come back to it and wipe it down. I must not have heard him right, because of course it dried, and even though wiping hard with a cloth got some dirt off, it didn’t appear visibly too much different.

I spray it again, thinking I would come back to it and wipe it down wet, but I never did get back to it.

Progress Professor Pac-man cpanel artwork

Worked a little more on the bottom section of the Professor Pac-man control panel overlay. I did a good deal of work, got through the blue ghost and most of the orange ghost before I worked on other pressing things.

Professor Pac-man bottom control panel artwork

Still really interested in having some sort of artwork preservation project going, tonight I was looking through the hi-res photos I had and I decided to start on tracing the bottom portion of the Professor Pac-man artwork. I got through remaking Pac-man before the night was up.

Mappy game in Warsaw IN

I have been monitoring this auction for a complete Mappy game in Warsaw Indiana. Only two an a half hours north of here, this is the closest I have ever seen any Mappy game. Now, obviously, I want this for my Jr. Pac-man conversion. As I have gone along, and talking more with Joe in Chicago and Richard in PA, I think I want my Jr. Pac-man in the original cabinet if at all possible. Right now I have enough projects to keep me busy so I can be patient.

This auction already ran once in late Feb with an opening bid of $500. Now, not unreasonable, this is a fairly rare game, and fairly popular if Jakks games would have you believe. But for me, that isn’t going to be profitable for what I wanted it for.

I want to be able to remake my own Jr. Pac-man machine, or buy a working one, at an approximate total cost of $500. That might be impossible, but like I said, I can be patient and I also don’t think that it is impossible.

Now, they relisted the auction after no one bid on it the first time. They relisted it at $400. I had emailed them twice asking if they would consider coming down some from their price, but I didn’t get a response which is a bad sign.

There are still no bidders on it, and two other Mappy cabinets didn’t sell for a lot less on the East coast in the last month or so. One was going for an astonishing $150, and the other for $250. So, what I am hoping is, since this is a remote area to require a pickup only, that they still won’t have any bidders, and I can get them down even more, even to $300 and then bargin for the remainder.

$300 with travel would put me at a cost of $350 for the game. I could probably sell off the three parts, Marquee, Control Panel, and Bezel for at least $50, if not $100. That is the unknown, I don’t see them come up much on ebay so I assume they would generate interest, but I just don’t know. But, for me to reprint Jr. Pac sideart for the game at a price of at least $170, my cost would right away be over the $500 mark without the replacement parts like the board, etc.

It doesn’t sound like in the ad that they have to have a fire sale, and have to part with it, but I am hoping maybe I can barter something with them, because if they come down to $300, and that is a big “if”, I don’t think they’ll come down more than that.

And I really need this cabinet.

I didn’t know too much about the game, other than it was trivia based game with questions and answers. Reading klov, it says that the game had over 500 unique answers, which really isn’t a ton. Midway thought this was going to be the next big type of game, but it flopped immediately, and only 400 were ever made.

Not a type of game that appealed to me, Pac-man based or not, I didn’t figure that I would be doing artwork for this game. But Richard Ford asked me if I could redo the control panel for him, I believe he has two of the few that still remain. The second one needs the parts, and hence the artwork.
