Replacing Crazy Climber joysticks Part 1

Part 1 of a 2 part article by Chris Moore

Crazy Climber has been on my want list for awhile and when I had a chance to buy one locally, from a fellow KLOV’er, I jumped at the chance. The game was actually a mini/cabaret version that needed a little love. When I first saw the game I could tell the monitor would need a cap kit, the overlay was worn badly and needed to be replaced, the joysticks were loose making the game play sloppy and there was a bad metal speaker cover on the front of the cabinet. I decided to tackle the joysticks first and this is my tutorial for using Sanwa joysticks as replacements on my Crazy Climber.

Breaking News: Joymonkey’s Ms. Pac-man Stencil files online at Local Arcade

Color me surpised. Now that it has been nearly seven months, for good reason I thought the collecting community may never have access to Paul Murphy’s (Joymonkey) Ms. Pac-man stencil files. Custom Space Invaders Video Shake Fix

Space Invaders Shaking Video Tutorial

Recently my Space Invaders started to show signs of the crappy Amp edge connector problem. Poor contact between the connector and the Space Invaders pcb causes the video to randomly shake, wave, wiggle or whatever you’d like to call it. For awhile I was able to solve the problem with a Fonz like rap on the side of the cabinet, but as time went on the problem became more pronounced until it was always there when the game was powered on. I was determined to fix the video display problem so here is my custom & reversible connector fix.

Today I wanted to spotlight some of these arcade game blogs, tell you what is great about them and what about their content that keeps me coming back for more.

Mappy cocktail artwork

Jeff Waldron was nice enough to save and give me some artwork he had laying around from a Mappy cocktail. I like Mappy quite a bit, (thank you Jakks TV Games) and enjoy the artwork so it is nice to have the cocktail glass underlay as well as two control panel overlays saved in case anyone ever wants to make reproductions or just needs scans for any reason.
