Klov vs. CoinOpSpace (Ning) Round 4 – Directly upload images

At the Klov.com forums, if you want to show an image in a post, you have to host it somewhere externally. This means, if you don’t pay for webspace, you have to sign up for a Photobucket account, or some other online storage and link to an image externally. This also means you have to fuddle with BB Code (Stupid version of HTML, why not just use HTML?) and you also may have to do some resizing.

I don’t know if this was purposeful, to save space on the server. That would make sense. But based on how truly crappy UBBThreads is as a forum software my guess is that this is default MO. At CoinOpSpace – My arcade forum and social network, you click a button to upload a photo, and you’re done. The way mom intended it. (more…)

Klov thinking about upgrading forum software – Voice your opinion

I wanted to endorse this movement for sure. Klov arcade forums are finally, again, looking at upgrading their forums. Only minor changes have been made over the life of the forum, some 6-7 years with only small upgrades. A year ago they were looking at an upgrade, and then….nothing. People waited, people asked questions, and no response was given. Hopefully this time, they follow through. (more…)

Collecting videos at the arcade forum is easy

One a day, and here is my spotlit feature tonight in my Ning based arcade game forum – YouTube and other arcade related videos can be collected in one easy repository. Granted, YouTube is pretty easy to use, but there are a ton of videos and there isn’t an arcade game section as far as I know. (Tags don’t count).

At the Arcade Game Collecting Community you can paste the embed code from YouTube or upload original videos to the site and those videos are then easy to find later with the search tool. (more…)

Continuing to spotlight value added reasons of my new arcade social network, the Arcade Game Collectors Community, tonight a short look into importing an RSS feed into your profile. Say you already have a blog, arcade related or not. You don’t want to write your content on Ning but instead continue to maintain your website. No problem, just pull your website RSS feed into Ning. It’s a great way to promote your website and at the same time it will seem like you actively update your profile without having to do anything! (more…)

Using Custom Graphics Your Ning Profile – Part 1

I have spotlit some small details about why the Arcade Game Collecting Community is so much better than the klov forums. However, the real meat of why this social community is so much more powerful is the flexibility to create your own mini website! Your profile page is yours to do with what you want and tonight I am providing three custom banners that you can use in your profile page as well as the code you need to change to make them work. Check it out! (more…)

Klov vs. Ning Round 3 – Built in PMs and Email

Last week we looked at a couple of value added time saving aspects of why the Ning arcade game forums / social community is so much better than the klov forums. Today we’re going to look at a small feature of Ning that although it might be concentrating too much on the minutia, the built in communication systems in Ning will save you time and keep your communication consistent. (more…)

Ning vs. Klov Round 2 – RSS Feeds

In continuing to spotlight why the Ning Arcade Game Collecting Community is so much better than the Klov arcade game forums and why you should consider switching here is a major feature that can make your life easier – RSS feeds.

If you use RSS for reading information already, you already know the value you can get in savings loads of time, keeping up with all information, and aggregating multiple websites of information into one simple program. How much time? I would guess that if you spend 1-3 hours a day reading arcade game forums and Craigslist listings you could save up to half of that time! Here’s the comparison. (more…)
