Moonlight Mile (2002)

Moonlight MileTwo Stars

Who’s in it

Jake Gyllenhaal, Susan Sarandon, Dustin Hoffman, Ellen Pompeo

Should you see this movie?

I would say no. “As he copes with the death of his fiancee along with her parents, a young man must figure out what he wants out of life.” (From IMDB) This tells you what the movie is about, and from there on out it wanders in self exploration that I struggled to try to feel some empathy for. Pompeo is the cute girl in the small town that is intoxicating, I always fall for them. There were some interesting commentary on how people feel at funerals and their reactions to condolences, but that is about it for insight, and this was just about as drab and boring as this writeup.

Failure To Launch (2006)

Failure To LaunchFour Stars

Who’s in it

Matthew McConaughey, Sarah Jessica Parker, Terry Bradshaw, Kathy Bates

Should you see this movie?

This was as cute and funny as the previews made it seem. McConaughey is a hot bachelor who is in his late thirties and bringing women home to his parents house, where he lives. The parents are sick of him being there, so they hire a lady who helps men “launch” into the real world and relationships, in a devious sort of way. But, we find out some of his past and there is a reason for why he is what he is, and it is a nice little love story, and a movie I may like enough to own. Bradshaw as the clueless dad is funny, especially when he converts Matt’s old room into a “naked room” complete with a fish tank and all. Wrinkly old man butt. See this, it’s a good one.

Urban Cowboy (1980)

Urban CowboyOne Star

Who’s in it

John Travolta, Debra Winger, Scott Glenn

Should you see this movie?

I hated this movie. I really like Travolta in general, but this was terrible, he just treats women like crap and quickly becomes a redneck after coming from the big city. I didn’t care about the subject content, mechanical bull riding, the male competition over women and stubborness, or how anyone acted towards one another, cheating, lying, games all in a bar setting. It wasn’t funny, but it wasn’t stupid, I just did not enjoy this and although I don’t think everyone would agree with me, I think most would.

Bought First Pac-man in Indianapolis, IN

Earlier in the month, actually June 1st, I bought my very first arcade machine – a beleaguered Pac-man. I had been looking for a Ms. Pac-man specifically, but found this instead at Wagner Gameworks. With some cabinet damage and some terrible attempts at touchup, this Pac-man was a great candidate to be taken out back and set on fire. Depending on how you look at it then, it was fortunate that I picked it up. (more…)

So I Married An Axe Murderer (1993)

So I Married An Axe MurdererThree and a Half Stars

Who’s in it

Mike Myers, Nancy Travis

Should you see this movie?

Maybe. This was the third time I saw this movie this summer, and it has finally grown on me. If you are stuck in the early 90’s and liked Mike Myers humor then, this movie may not sit well with you like it did for me. I never thought it was very funny, just the opening part at the family’s house with “the head” and “Saturday Night”, Myers plays a hilarious father. The rest of the movie is a more physical humor that is traditional mixed in with a cute love story. She turns out not to be the murderer, instead her roommate, but she does act weird through the whole movie to keep you guessing, which is a product of being hurt so many times. A cute dated love story, you might see it if you like him if you haven’t already.

Inside Man (2006)

Inside ManThree and a Half Stars

Who’s in it

Denzel Washington, Clive Owen, William Dafoe, Christopher Plummer, Jody Foster

Should you see this movie?

This was a decent movie with a great cast. The title is interesting, implying something different than it actually is. The movie centers around a bank heist and the demands from a highly intelligent ringleader to the middle of the road cop Denzel Washington. Throw in Foster’s character, you love to hate her, and you have a really interesting push and pull. In the end though, the bad guys aren’t nearly as bad as they seem, and there are motives that date back some 60 years, and you’ll have to watch to find out what they are. If you like any of these actors, it is a good film for all of them.
